Question about the Dead Zone?

I've just started watching the Dead Zone because my dad recommended it. I really like the show and Bruce and Johnny are my favorite characters. But for some reason I think I remember someone saying that Bruce wasn't on the final season. Was he? Did he die? I really like him and I don't want him to die.
