I am not a relative, but I am taking care of a friend who is disabled and a diabetic. can I get paid?

I have to cean, cook and do dishes, shop, do his books, he won't wear depends so I have to thoroughly clean the bathroom 2-3 times per day, I do the laundry, wound care, insulin and blood pressure 2 x a day. He is on tons of medications which I place in the appropriate boxes for him to take during the day. I have to put lotion on his leg here there is some sort of burn and I also mow the 5 acre lot lawn, plow it, get the mail (1/4 mile walk) and put 2 trash barrels out each week a 1/4 mile away. I also do small maintenance on his large house and am handling several legal matters for him. He is a disabled veteran. I also have to help him dress and bathe him as he cannot put pants or underwear on by himself. Last week, he fell in the bathroom and broke a rib so he is even worse off. This takes up almost all of my time.
