Carrier proteins, ion pumps?

Does carrier protein carry out pive or active transport or both? glucose moves along it by diffusion with a hydrogen ion which is pumped out of the cell by active transport. Why is it that glucose molecules have to be attached to the hydrogen ion in order to p through to the cell membrane/. I am getting a bit confused about it and if anyone could help that would be great.
