What happened to Oral Roberts $8million scam...were there any consequences for him??

So I'm sitting here watching VH1 "I love the 80's" and up pops this little blurb which I did not know about...Oral Roberts apparently petitioned people to send in 8 million dollars by March otherwise God was going to "call him home" which basically meant he was going to die. How can you not reep some kind of lawful consequences with such a SCAM like that! It is scary how much garbage "religious leaders" can spout out of their mouths and people just soak it up. I grew up in the church and in full blown out christianity...this is one of the many reasons I'm so turned off to it now. Seriously though, is he just living happily ever after on his ranch now with his private jet? What's that about?
